What is Cross-app Group chat?
People can create group chats between their Instagram and Messenger friends using the cross-app group chat feature, and users can see when others are typing using the group typing indications. It is an important feature released by Facebook in the latest Update.
Instagram and Messenger users will be able to communicate more easily through a unified chat experience with cross-app communication.
Facebook has announced a set of new features to improve Instagram and Messenger interaction. Cross-app group communication, new group typing indicators, and polls in Instagram DMs(direct messages) are among the new features.
Apart from the features mentioned as a result of the cross-app integration, Instagram has added a ‘Watch Together’ function to that app, which allows users to watch IGTV movies and Reels with their friends directly from their Instagram feed. Facebook, the parent company of Instagram, has introduced new chat themes for both Facebook Messenger and Instagram users.

Cross-app communication allows users to communicate with friends and family across many social media platforms. According to Facebook, over 70% of Instagram users already have switched to the new Messenger experience to take advantage of new features such as cross-app communication, and the Facebook company released group cross-app communication on September 30, 2021.
People will be able to start group chats amongst their contacts on Instagram and Facebook Messenger as part of the latest upgrade. A user can now customize their chat experience by using new chat themes and custom reactions. In addition, Facebook has added polls to Instagram DMs and group chats, allowing users in a cross-platform group conversation to communicate and resolve issues together.
Facebook claims that users will still be able to choose who can contact them while using the new features. Users can choose who views their Chats List, who goes to their Message Request folder, and who can’t message or phone them using delivery controls. Group Typing Indicators, on the other hand, will allow users to see when others are typing in cross-platform group chats.
Finally, Facebook has introduced Watch Together from the Instagram Feed, giving the user another way to engage through chat.
